Traffic forecasts for Switzerland for the week from 26 February to 4 March 2018
Monday to Friday: from February 26th to March 2nd
Winter holidays continue in some Swiss cantons and in several northern European countries. Nevertheless, during the week, we will have to deal with the usual commuter traffic, especially on the ring roads of cities and around long-term construction sites. The major inconveniences are to be expected between 7.00 and 9.00 in the morning and between 17.00 and 19.00 in the evening.
Weekend – Friday to Sunday: from 2 to 4 March
In the cantons of GR, NE, SZ, as well as in the northern and central regions of the Netherlands, winter holidays end this weekend. As a result, on Saturday and Sunday queues or strong slowdowns on the roads around the major ski resorts will be expected. Waiting times will also be possible at the shuttle train loading stations, at Oberwald and Realp for Furka, Kandersteg and Goppenstsein for the Lötschberg as well as at Selfranga / Klosters and at Saglians in the Engadine for the Vereina. The most critical hours will be Saturday between 8.00am and 5.00pm and Sunday from 3.00pm to 6.00pm.
As always at the weekend, the usual traffic related to purchases and excursions will not be missing. The circulation will be intense especially on the ring roads of the big cities and near the parking lots.
Caution is also advised in the event of a sharp drop in temperatures: this could turn roads into dangerous slides. In addition, fog banks can significantly reduce visibility locally.
